Four members of Monmouth Tri Club have completed Ironman Wales. Tim Morris, Gareth Dodd, Dave Bowen and Jools Forrest swam 2.4 miles in the sea at Tenby before jumping on their bikes for a 112-mile cycle and finished by running a full marathon. It wasn't all plain sailing, as the water was very choppy, more than 54 competitors had to be pulled from the sea, two unconscious. Tim and Gareth were both sick from too much salt water. Jools completed the event with a bad back and even now can't touch his toes. Dave enjoyed the buzz of the crowd, which really helped spur you him around the course. Tim said: "The last 20 miles of the run were a struggle, having drunk half of the sea, but the legs are good this morning and we are ready to eat every pie in Tenby." Not only have they all achieved their personal goal of reaching the finishing line – about 170 of the 2,100 competitors did not finish – Tim and Gareth have raised around £4,000 for their chosen charity, Scope. Dave completed the swim in 1.13.51, the cycle in 6.43.40 and the run in 4.33.00 – giving him a total time of 12.54.55 and putting him 525th out of 2,000 competitors. Jools' times were 1.20.45, 6.56.52 and 5.04.09, giving him a total of 13.44.10 and putting him in 847th place. Tim recorded times of 1.34.58, 7.21.13 and 5.54.19 in his total of 15.16.49 and finished 1,383rd. Gareth did the swim in 1.37.54, the cycle in 7.35.28 and the run in 5.39.16, with his total of 15.18.34 putting him in 1,393rd place. Monmouth Tri Club said it was very proud of all four men.
