USK Town FC suffered a sinking feeling at their Island home on Saturday, despite Oliver Rudall levelling Trinant’s 10th-minute opener midway through the first half.

The Gwent Premier 2 visitors went in front again just before the break, and the second half proved one-way traffic as the mid-table Caerphilly outfit scored four more to run out 6-1 winners, leaving their hosts second from bottom.

Chepstow relegation rivals Thornwell R&W had a good day in the Gwent Amateur Cup though, beating hosts Llanhilleth Athletic 5-2 with Toby Prettyjohn firing a hat-trick.

Athletic led after just five minutes but Prettyjohn's first seven minutes later followed by a goal from Owen Badham (24) and Rory Garey (32) put the visitors in the driving seat.

And two more from Prettyjohn (57, 80) either side of a Llanhilleth goal put Thornwell comfortably through to the next round.

Monmouth outfit Rockfield Rovers stayed top of East Gwent 2 courtesy of a feisty 2-2 draw away to second-placed Caldicot Castle 2nds.

Ben Wiggins with a brace (30, 50) put the visitors in control, but Castle pulled one back with 10 minutes to play.

And with a player from each side getting their marching orders a minute from normal time as tempers frayed, Castle equalised deep in stoppage time.

Third-placed Chepstow 3rds were 0-0 after an hour away at Underwood 2nds, but the floodgates then opened, as 16-year-old Connor Hughes fired a hat-trick backed by strikes from Charlie Key and Ash White to secure a 5-2 win.

Monmouth Town’s visit to Pill Harriers was rained off, but they’ll hope to entertain Newport Corinthians in the Gwent Senior Cup this Saturday.
