A BATTLING performance from a depleted Redbrook side saw them narrowly edged out 2-1 at Tidenham.

Despite missing several regulars, Rovers began Saturday's North Gloucestershire One clash brightly, passing confidently and producing some sharp attacking play.

And their positive start was rewarded when Larsson Brown rose highest to head home the opener on 14 minutes.

But a momentary lapse from a corner then proved costly as the ball dropped for a Tidenham striker to tap in from close range for 1-1 at half-time.

After the restart, Redbrook found themselves under pressure but looked dangerous on the break.

However, a swift Tidenham counter and a tidy finish midway through the second half made it 2–1.

And although Redbrook pushed hard for an equaliser, dominating possession and creating several half-chances, the final touch was missing, with the hosts winning to leapfrog Rovers to third.

But Rovers’ 2nds won by the same score at home to Broadwell A in NG3, Jake Teague opening the scoring early on with a screamer before Jack Clements doubled the lead soon after half-time, beating the keeper at the near post.

Just a few miles downstream and also beside the Wye, Monmouth's Rockfield Rovers also won 2-1 at Tintern Abbey to go level on points at the top of East Gwent 2 with Chepstow Town 3rds.

Ryan McCallum put the visitors in front on 24 minutes before Abbey No 9 Harry Francis levelled four minutes before the break.

But all three points went upriver thanks to a 52nd-minute Rhys Jones winner.

Elsewhere, East Gwent One leaders Chepstow Town 2nds were driven off 5-2 at Caldicot Castle, Alfie Owen with the consolations, while tablemates Thornwell R&W 2nds were undone 4-0 by visitors Underwood, and Sudbrook CC blitzed Severn Tunnel 8-1 at home.

Sudbrook CC 2nds also won 8-1 at Portskewett & Sudbrook in EG2, while Caldicot Castle 2nds clattered their own 3rds 10-1.
