East Gwent League Centenary Cup quarter-final - Chepstow Athletic 1 Monmouth Town 6

MONMOUTH Town manager Paul Perrella was without two regulars for the visit to Chepstow Athletic but he was delighted by his team’s 6-1 victory.

“It was a tough, physical match and everyone played well,” he said.

Town were without skipper Larsson Brown and keeper Josh Ellis but Greg Powell took the keeper’s jersey and made a number of good saves.

With the score at 1-1 at half time Perrella and co-manager Richard Thorp had “stern words” with their men during the break.

“Greg’s saves and Sam Williams’ goal had kept us in it in the first half but after Richard and I changed a few things we were much better in the second half,” Perrella said.

“We returned to quick passing and moving and Sam Williams scored his second goal and Jacob Perrella, Fin Thorp,  and James Greany (2) made it a comfortable victory.”

In the other ties, Sudbrook CC beat Chepstow Town 3-2, Raglan FC won 5-2 at Portskewett & Sudbrook and Thornwell Red & White B beat Caldicot Castle B 7-1.

Thornwell boss Keith Tipper was delighted with the performance.

“This was probably our best performance of the season,” Tipper said later.

“Everyone gave 100 per cent without my regular central defender Neil Wilson, and Jack Stewart, Iain Easton and Mark Pope really stepped up and did an amazing job at the back.”
