SECOND-placed Redbrook Rovers hsoted North Gloucestershire 1 leaders Staunton & Corse on Saturday in a top-of-the-table clash and secured all three points in a statement 3-2 victory.

Rovers set up in an attacking 3-5-2 formation and made the perfect start within five minutes, as Scott Windley rose highest to power home a superb header from a Zak Morgan corner for a 1-0 lead.

Staunton responded with sustained pressure and, despite Rovers digging deep defensively, the visitors eventually found a way through to level the score.

The game turned into a fierce midfield battle, but Rovers showed real composure and determination.

And just before the break, Ieuan Frost calmly converted from the penalty spot to restore the advantage and send Rovers in 2–1 up at half-time.

The second half started in electric fashion as another dangerous corner found Zak Morgan again, whose effort found the far corner of the net for 3–1.

Staunton pulled a goal back to set up a tense finale, but Rovers stood firm, every player “showing grit, resilience, and togetherness to see out a massive 3–2 victory “.

Tom Wareham, whose engine never stopped from first whistle to last, won Man of the Match.

And the 2nds also won 1-0 away to Broadwell A in the Forest, thanks to a disciplined, hard-working performance in tough conditions.

The game was finely balanced at 0–0 at half time, but Redbrook were dominating possession, territory, and goal attempts.

And constant pressure and smart use of the conditions gradually wore the hosts down, with the breakthrough finally coming when Sam Hamley finished clinically after a well-weighted assist from Liam Radnor.

The hosts then went close dragging an effort wide, before forcing a save with a long-range effort, but Rovers stood firm, and should have won by more, with two excellent counter-attacking chances going begging.

Redbrook 1sts host Yorkley this Saturday (February 7), while the 2nds travel to face Broadwell A.
