Sasha John Gurie and Greg Harris scored the Green Army’s goals in the 3-2 defeat, with the club posting: “Great shift from the squad yesterday including a number of lads making their first team debuts.”

In East Gwent Division One, third-placed Rockfield Rovers lost out 5-3 at their Monmouth ground to Undy 3rds.

Josh Phillips looped a shot over the Undy keeper after 23 minutes to open the scoring, and things got even better for the Rockers when Ross Cooly dispatched a penalty into the bottom left for 2-0.

Two minutes before the break Undy got a questionable penalty, but keeper Mike Harold made a superb stop to preserve the lead.

But Undy came out firing after the restart and three quick goals in the first 15 minutes turned the game on its head.

Cooly lived up to his name to score a wonder goal to make it 3-3, but with the hosts’ keeper going off injured, Undy grabbed two late goals to secure the points.

First beat third as leaders Portskewett & Sudbrook won 2-1 at Sudbrook CC, Jordan Poole and Tommy Leonard the scorers.

Second-placed Chepstow outfit Thornwell R&W stayed just a point behind them though, winning 3-2 at Caldicot Castle, while a Jack Lloyd hat-trick, braces from Bart Ochim and Harvey Cochrane and a goal from David Lloyd secured a thumping 8-0 home win for Caldicot Town 3rds over basement boys Severn Tunnel.

Division 2 leaders Underwood also thrashed hosts Tintern Abbey 8-0 to go an uncatchable 18 points clear at the top.

Second-placed Chepstow Town 3rds slipped up 1-0 at Portskewett & Sudbrook 2nds, Rhys Williams getting the only goal, while Sudbrook CC 2nds smashed basement boys Chepstow Castle 2nds 9-1 at home, with the latter still pointless.

But there was double joy for Redbrook Rovers, as both teams won at the weekend.

Callum Wheatley was on target for the 1st XI in a North Gloucestershire Premier Division basement battle, as the hosts ran out 2-0 winners.

And in Division 2, the 2nd XI secured only their second win of the season, Dan Bodenham, Ryan Jeffs and Lewis Tyler the marksmen in a 3-2 win away to Ruardean Hill Rangers A.
