A Monmouth forest ranger is organising the Forest of Dean's first ever Santa Cycle to raise funds for a charity mountain climb next summer.
Forestry Commission Ranger Richard Mostyn is raising money for his Mont Blanc challenge in aid of Marie Curie Cancer Care in June 2013.
Santas, Mother Christmases and elfs of all ages are encouraged to join in the festive fun and challenge by meeting at Beechenhurst Lodge on Saturday 8th December for the Santa Cycle Challenge.
The event will start between 9am and 10.30am and head out on the 11-mile Family Cycle Trail.
There will be a prize for the best Christmassy decorated bike.
With festive music, provided by the local Forest of Dean Wind Band from 1pm to 3pm, returning Santas will be greeted with a warm mulled wine and mince pie. Gavellers Café will also be on standby, selling hearty grub to the hungry crowd.
The Chepstow Big Band will be performing a good mix of old and new Christmas hits and Traditional Carols between 5pm and 7pm when the Christmas Tree lights will be turned on.
Richard plans to summit Mont Blanc in memory of his grandfather.
He said: "It's a great opportunity to support Marie Curie, a fantastic charity, at a special time of year.
"Many people will spend this Christmas with family members or friends directly affected by cancer, this is a great way to support an amazing charity who do incredible work with the added bonus of burning off a few calories before the festive feast begins."
The event is open to all ages but under 16s must be accompanied by an adult.
There is a registration fee of £16.50 for adults which includes a Santa suit, £10 for adults without a Santa suit and £6 for under 16s (no suit included).
Those interested in taking part should register by calling Forest Connections on 01594 822612.
