England women's cricket captain Charlotte Edwards will be visiting Monmouth Comprehensive School on Wednesday 17th April to inspire the next generation of girls to play cricket.

Following an exciting World Cup in India, Charlotte will be visiting the school in order to try and get more young girls interested in cricket and join local cricket clubs.

The trip is part of her role as a Chance to Shine coaching ambassador and will help to promote the Cricket Wales Community Coach programme.

The Cricket Wales Community Coach programme supported by Chance to Shine and Sport Wales is a national initiative designed to increase participation in cricket throughout Wales.

More than 20,000 children took part in Wales last year and with 22 Community Coaches deployed throughout Wales, the scheme is set for another bumper season.

The Cricket Foundation's Chance to Shine campaign is supported by Brit Insurance. The scheme, backed by the England & Wales Cricket Board, currently employs seven England players on coaching contracts.

As the players combine their international training and playing commitments with high quality inspirational coaching, young girls at Monmouth Comprehensive School will have the chance to profit from meeting one of the country's top female cricketers.

Members of Monmouth Cricket Club will also be in attendance and the club have developed an excellent community link with the secondary school in recent month.

Monmouthshire Council's Sport Development team promoting girls participation in cricket by providing opportunities at primary, secondary and local clubs to ensure everyone is provided with the skills for a life in sport.

Girls-only cricket sessions will be launched in the secondary school as part of the 5x60 programme after the visit from Charlotte and will provide pupils with the chance to participate on a weekly basis, and ultimately join Monmouth Cricket Club.

Cricket Wales chief executive Peter Hybart said: "We are delighted that Charlotte is visiting Monmouth Comprehensive School.

"We aspire to make cricket accessible to everyone in Wales and I'm sure Charlotte will inspire girls to play cricket and enjoy the game."

Charlotte said: "I hope the girls come away from the day feeling inspired to go along to Monmouth Cricket Club and become part of a rapidly growing sport for girls.

"My role as a Chance to Shine Coaching Ambassador is great as it allows me to combine playing international cricket with a job where I can really make a difference."
