A lot of fun and a great amount of skill was on show last week during the Monmouth annual Tennis Easter course held at Monmouth School for Girls.

Three separate age groups, five to seven, eight to 11 and 12-18-year-olds were put through their paces by a team of experienced and qualified coaches.

Adam Davis, head coach at Penallt Tennis Club, said of the week: "I was really impressed and pleased with all the players' commitment, skill and attitude throughout the week."

Seven-year-old Theo Purkis is one of Monmouth's most promising players and the winner of recent mini tournaments in both Gloucester and Cheltenham.

He said: "I could not wait to get there each day and did not want it to end. Brilliant."

Laura Peacock, aged 13 and another rising star, added: "It was a really fun week and great to hit with a whole range of new players."

The coaching team, who will be joined in the summer by New Zealand professional Mark Milburn, have planned two summer holiday courses to take place on the weeks 23rd to 27th July and 28th to 31st August.

Brothers Rob and Dan Mills, both competition players from Penallt Tennis Club, also took part in the course.

Eight-year-old Rob said: "I really enjoyed playing lots of matches with children of all ages, it was a great opportunity."

Dan, 11, added: "I really enjoyed playing and improving all my shots, and also helping others to learn."
