Both Chepstow Harriers' male and female teams won the Gwent Leisure Centre League held at Llanhennock near Caerleon on Tuesday 15th July. There were 10 male and female teams from running clubs in South East Wales competing in the event, with Chepstow taking the highest scores. The run was the penultimate in a series of five races, with the female team currently leading overall, and the men's team in second place. Chepstow are very well placed to win the whole series, and the deciding race is being held at Parc Bryn Bach on Tuesday 5th August. The six-mile, hilly course was on quiet lanes in a very scenic, rural setting, and it was a perfect summer's evening for the race. However, competitors could not admire the scenery for too long as each runner battled to gain a good place for their team. The 10 scoring men from Chepstow Harriers were Matt Stott, James Blore, Duncan Bell, Paul Murrin, Rich Matthews, Paul Dodd, James Tucker, Rob Hook, Matthew Lawson and Mark Harvey. The six scoring women from Chepstow Harriers were Jane Horler, Niki Morgan, Georgie Prior, Helen Duffield, Sophie Gilbert and Lisa Jeffrey. Special mention should go to Daphne Austerberry, who is 70 years old, and achieved a personal best time for the course, smashing her time from last year by over six minutes.
