NINETY four from Harry Hughes and 61 from skipper Aaron Jones inspired Chepstow 1sts to a vital second win of the season at high-flying South Wales Premier 2 Swansea outfit Clydach.
Following defeat to fellow bottom-three side Mumbles the week before, it was essential that the Wye Valley side bounce back in their battle to beat an immediate return to South East Wales One after promotion last year.
And they did so in style at the second-placed hosts, cracking 282-7 off 50 overs in the sizzling heat, Hughes' 94 coming off 100 balls, including 10 fours and three sixes, before he was agonisingly trapped lbw just six short of his ton.
Henry Sullivan also scored 36, incuding three sixes, in a 76-run fourth-wicket partnership with Hughes, and Scott Bailey 24.
Bruno Chitnis then took 4-35, Filip Chitnis 2-37, Rhys Leach 2-39 and James Hall and Lewis Jones one apiece as Chepstow dismissed the hosts for 221 in 47.1 overs.
The 2nds also won by eight wickets at home to Miskin Manor 2nds after being set a target of 227-9 off 45 overs in SEW 3.
Ted Blandford took three wickets, Malith Madurasinghe two and Ben Hope-Bell, Chris Archer and Tyler Robertson one each, as Jonathan Huws took two catches and made a stumping.
Archer with Madurasinghe then put on 161 for the opening wicket, scoring 81 off 67 balls, including 16 fours, with the latter going on to score an unbeaten 72, backed by Raahi Kumar with 37 not out, and Chepstow reaching 228-2 with 13 overs to spare.
And completing a clean sweep, the 3rds won by two wickets away to Newport Fugitives 3rds in SEW 12.
The city side were limited to 194-9 off 40 overs, Paul Phillips, Harry Harkins and Scott Williams with wicket braces.
Chepstow then reached 195-8 with nine balls to spare, opener Alun Jones scoring 57, Harry Harkins 31 and Brent Harkins 29.
