MONMOUTHSHIRE will be well represented at the Pony Club Championships in Cheshire in August.
Monmouthshire Pony Club teams of four riders competed at three different levels in dressage, show jumping and eventing in their area qualifying competitions recently.
The Open team qualified in all three competitions, the Intermediate team qualified in show jumping and eventing and the Novice Team, in the most widely contested section, qualified in eventing.
A special mention goes to Novice rider, Becky Pugh (14), who managed to win her section in all three disciplines and help the eventing team towards qualification.
Fourteen Monmouthshire Pony Club riders, aged from 14 to 19, will now head up to Cheshire to compete against 1,600 pony club members from 200 branches around the UK.
There will be four days of competition at Cholmondeley Castle for the Open and Intermediate championships (16th to 19th August), where they will be joined by the 10 Monmouthshire junior and senior PC mounted games teams, with one rider of only six years old, who also qualified in their zone competitions earlier in the year and Louise Sadler, who has qualified for the Endurance championships.
The Novice Championship will be held on 24th and 25th August at Kelsall Hill.
The riders have trained very hard in the lead up to these competitions and they have been tirelessly supported by family and friends.
The championships will offer them the opportunity to compete against youngsters from all over the country as well as camping out and socialising with them.
