Graham Waite together with co-driver Gill Cotton took a comfortable Category One victory on the Trackrod Historic Cup last weekend in the Volvo Amazon.

The event, based in the classic Yorkshire forests, opened up with a 15-mile test in the Dalby forest in darkness on the Friday night.

Waite (pictured) found the conditions extremely slippery running first car on the road.

"Can't see what's mud from gravel, it's unbelievably slippery and I was so cautious," he said.

He lay second overnight behind another Volvo P544 of Ian Beveridge.

Saturday offered just three stages but all of which were long ones, Beveridge's lead was short lived when electrical problems brought about his retirement.

With the other Volvo driver gone Waite held a very comfortable lead, so consolidation was the key and with no major dramas cruised to victory by over two minutes.

This weekend sees Forest of Dean Motor Clubs Weir Laundry Equipment Rally Time Trial in Sweet Lamb.

A very good quality entry has assembled for the six tests totalling 30 miles. Last year's winners Dan Humphreys and Jonny 'Tad' Evans will lead the field away with former national champion Rob Smith with Ross Weir alongside, hot on their heels in WLE Subaru Impreza, Sara Williams will be another challenging for overall honours with Bill Godfrey on board.

RAC front runner Paul Griffiths will be the leading historic competitor with Will Rogers on the maps, Terry Brown will be re-united with GMF managing director Adrian McNally and another Escort RS1800.

The Walby family will be well represented with dad Martyn clerk of the course, son Jack at the wheel of a Calico Interiors-backed Peugeot 106, with the very experienced Cliff Simmons alongside, sister Kirsty will be making her motorsport debut sitting with Geriant Mills in his Opel Manta 400.

Kirsty's boyfriend Ben Mayo is another debutant sitting alongside Nigel Jenkins in the 16v Nova.

Simon Cox is another newcomer in with Shawn Baldwin in the Autofix Escort RS.

Spectators are very welcome with the action starting from 10am and they can see all six stages taking place. All details at fodmc.co.uk
