BOTH Chepstow and Sudbrook's Firsts suffered the away day blues, losing at Usk and Croesyceiliog respectively over the weekend.

At Usk, Chepstow skipper Jason Dobbie won the toss and decided to bat first.

Carwyn James lost his partner Dave Teague (8) early on but third man Tyler Morgan-Huggett top-scored with 80 – including eight boundaries and a maximum – to recover.

David Monk (7) lost his wicket but Dobbie helped to steady the innings with 54 and Jon Roberts (18). Jamie Rayner (10) and Alyn Franklin saw them through to 236-6 from their 50 overs.

James Aston was the pick of Usk's bowlers with four wickets for 42 runs and two maidens in his 10-over spell.

But in reply, Usk enjoyed a maiden century by Phil Stephens (103) that included 13 boundaries.

The home side ran down the target with fellow opener Iain Clayton (94) the only casualty – bowled by Monk – while skipper Henry Lewis added 26 to clinch it.

Meanwhile, at Croesyceiliog, the home side won the toss and put Sudbrook in.

Sudbrook skipper Ross Lewis scored 14, lost his opening partner Joe Voke (1) and could only watch as wickets tumbled regularly and cheaply.

"The lads were bitterly disappoint," admitted Lewis, "but we are looking forward to this Saturday against Pontypridd at home.

"It's likely there could be some fresh faces as we have a few players missing this week.

"With the second team having a good win at the weekend it is an opportunity for some of these guys to make their mark at first team level.

"We were about 40 runs short of what was a good score on the wicket and lost too many early wickets.

"We battled our way to 179 mainly thanks to a good innings by Rhys Pescod (31 not out).

"We did feel that we had a competitive total but their batsmen were aggressive to get them off to a good start and from then on in we were up against it.

"Lewis Morgan bowled really well and James Hussey bowled with great discipline but after the start they had we were always struggling.

Ieuan Wakefield did the most damage, claiming 3-27 from his 10 overs while Danny Evans took 3-54.

In reply, Croesyceiliog opener Thomas Kear top-scored with 35 before being run out, and his partner Alex Barry made 24.

Skipper Stewart Roden made 34 before being trapped lbw by Jonathan Lewis (3-36) and the target was overtaken with Rhys Jones (24) and Alex Kryjom (8) still at the crease.
