Chepstow Cricket Club slipped to a 16-run defeat to neighbours Sudbrook despite Jason Dobbie top-scoring in the match with 96 off just 104 balls last Saturday (25th May).

Opener Nick Folland scored 77 as Chepstow set about chasing their target of 256 and had support from Jamie Rayner (22) but apart from Dobbie's knock, which included 12 fours and a six, wickets fell at regular intervals.

David Teague, Malith Madurasinghe, David Monk and Mitchell Harris made just a single apiece and James Bostock was out for a first-ball duck.

Sam Jackson (10) put on some late runs and Bryan Dickinson hung around but Chepstow were all out for 240 in 49.4 overs.

For Sudbrook, Mark O'Leary took 3-32 from 10 overs while Nathan Thomas finished with figures of 4-31 from only five overs.

There were also wickets for Dean Wallace, Jonathan Lewis and Mitchell Slape.

Earlier in the day, Madurasinghe claimed the early wicket of Ross Lewis for one before Sudbrook's top order took control of the game.

Mathew Kinchin scored 58 from only 57 balls, Lewis Morgan hit 59 off 76 and Michael Morgan made 65 off 108 balls before becoming Madurasinghe's (2-44) second victim.

Mark O'Leary (15) and Jamie Coles (23) also made valuable runs for Sudbrook, who finished on 256-8 from their 50 overs.

Harris took 2-50 for Chepstow and there were also wickets for Monk, Teague, Dobbie and Tuhin Gavand.

The result leaves Chepstow third in the Thomas Carroll Glamorgan and Monmouthshire League Division One while Sudbrook move up to sixth.

Up to fourth in the division are Usk, who beat Rogerstone Welfare by eight wickets last Saturday.

Rogerstone struggled to 75 not out from 27.5 overs, with opener Andrew Trinder (17) the only man to reach double figures and Extras top-scoring with 29, including 24 wides.

Jake Roderick took 3-21, Lorne Burns 3-16, James Colhard 2-19 and Sam Morris 2-14 in an impressive bolwing display despite the amount of wides bowled.

Burns then showed batting was possible on the pitch as he hit 48 including 10 boundaries to help Usk reach 77-2 from only 7.5 overs.

Henry Lewis (13) also hit four boundaries to help Usk over the finish line.
