Chepstow took on old rivals Sudbrook last Saturday (10th August) and took the chance to bat first after winning the toss.
Openers David Teague and Tom Smith settled in and made good progress until Smith was caught by Pescod off the ball of Jonathan Lewis for 19.
Teague continued running up the score finding the boundary seven times in all despite the third man, Nick Folland, falling to a catch from Michael Martin having taken no runs. Jason Dobbie took the pitch and settled down to add 38 runs, including six fours, before he was another victim of Martin's quick reactions being caught out of his crease.
Teague was the next to fall after a respectable 46 runs, leaving the result looking fair, but the next wicket fell too quickly for Chepstow as Rayner was soon caught by Morgan from the bowling of Prescod after 11 runs. Malith Madurasing, pictured, (24 not out) and Ansell added a useful 18 runs until the latter went for 11 having been run-out.
David Monk went for a duck from an lbw off Morgan's capable bowling and Jon Roberts followed after adding six runs to Chepstows increasingly fragile position of 163 for 8. Bringing up the rear, the Morgan-Huggett brothers struggled to add any serious runs partnering Malith Madurasinghe and Chepstow ended up 187 for 9.
In response, Sudbrook's openers Kinchin and Shaw stumbled with Kinchin caught by Ansell off the bowling of Roberts for 14. But the partnership of Morgan and Shaw took Sudbrook to a comfortable 142 for two and despite the superb bowling of Chepstow's Jason Dobbie, who dismissed Martin and Spencer for lbws, Sudbrook declared at 187 with five batsmen still to put on the pads.
Sudbrook are now cementing their position at number two in the league table with 10 wins out of 16 games with only Usk Cricket Club looking to threaten their spot.
