CALDICOT golfer Laurence Vargas has been selected for the Boys European Championships to be held in Pickala, Finland, starting on Tuesday 7th July. 

So far this year, Laurence has been successful in a number of tournaments, league matches for Gwent and competitions at his home club – St Pierre in Chepstow.

Laurence said: "I'm proud not only to be Junior Champion at St Pierre but also Club Champion: the youngest ever winner."

Laurence also came first in the North Wales Boys Tournament last month. The course par was 71 and Laurence won with scores of 70 and 67 on day one and 75 and 75 on day two.

At the Trubshaw Cup at Ashburnham, Laurence played well to finish within the top twenty.

Katherine Vargas, Laurence's mother said: "This is a fantastic achievement for a 17 year old. Laurence is definitely on a successful journey."
