Monmouth Town were drawn at home in this Saturday's FAW Welsh Cup second round against early pace setters AFC Porth but have had to switch the tie because of clash of fixtures with Monmouth RFC.

The following week's league cup tie has also had to be switched to an away fixture, leaving a frustrated chairman Lee Robson to express his disappointment that a recent application to allow a small stand to be erected, which would have allowed both football and rugby to develop and expand, failed to gain Welsh Assembly approval.

"It's really frustrating to have to switch cup fixtures to away games, particularly a Welsh Cup tie which is a high profile competition and one which we could do well in.

"Apart from loss of revenue, it hands the advantage to our opponents. Our application for a small stand could have solved a lot of problems as well as helping all sport clubs at the ground to grow and develop but the rules governing the 'Village Green' have put paid to that for now.

"We will be seeking a high-level meeting with our elected representatives to see whether their ambitions and aspirations for sport and health and wellbeing in the town match ours.

"If they do then I'd like to see how we can go about achieving them together."
