Monmouth School pupils, parents and Old Boys took to the River Wye, competing against one another and a field of over 200 boats from across the UK.

On Saturday 28th September there was an Old Boys race and an opportunity for several parents to 'have a go' at rowing.

Over a relatively short course agreed by the old boys, they secured a victory over the School VIII. The 'tubby four' had several excursions with many parents giving rowing a go.

Then on the Sunday, Monmouth School competed in the Monmouth Autumn Head of the River. This is a major event in the region with more than 200 boats racing down the river Wye.

The school put in excellent performances across the board which started with a win in the J15 octuple scull and the J16 quadruple scull in the first division – the J16s being the fastest crew in the division.

The boys also tied first equal in the Novice quad and won the 2nd division overall again, with the 1st J18 quadruple scull and the 2nd J18 scull only seven seconds behind them.

Rory Booth and Charlie Price also won the J16 double scull despite an altercation with some of the Wye's beautiful wildlife but the J15 quads struggled a little bit with the depth (or rather lack of depth) of the river in places.

In the last division of the day, Monmouth School was going for the quad scull hat-trick and narrowly missed out on the J17 quads by two seconds, but Tom Morgan beat 10 other scullers to win the Novice single event (beating Virginian Fellow Mr Elliot by one second) and Rob Leighton and Tom Sidorowicz were a very creditable second in the J18 double scull.

Rory Freeman completed the J16 clean sweep by winning the single scull event at that age group as well.

The J18 quad's time of 6:51 in the second division was one of the fastest recorded on this stretch of the river and was the fastest time of the day.
