CALDICOT Castle's resurgence continued with a 3-2 home win over Race this weekend while Rockfield Rovers maintained their push for promotion by beating visiting Trinant 5-2.
Thornwell Red and White lost 4-1 at Rogerstone and in Division 2, Blackrock Rovers won 3-1 at Lucas Cwmbran.
At Caldicot Castle, the home side were without regular keeper Dave Hayward through suspension so defender Richard Beach took over between the posts.
But the victory was soured by an injury to James McKeon who was taken to the Royal Gwent Hospital to have nine stitches inserted in a nasty gash on his right shin.
"We scored three superb breakaway goals and had numerous chances to kill the game off but somehow couldn't find the back of the net," admitted assistant manager James Lawrence.
"We also conceded two avoidable goals due to lack of concentration and communication."
Race were reduced to 10 men early in the second half after a reckless tackle but
fought hard until the final whistle.
"Sadly, we've lost James for at least six weeks with an horrific injury," Lawrence added.
"This will be a massive loss for us as he's been outstanding in the last three games, that have seen us take nine points."
Castle's goals came from James Reid (2) and Richard Withey.
Meanwhile, Thornwell boss Steve Bidmead said he was very disappointed after his men lost at Rogerstone.
"We just couldn't get out of our own half because Rogerstone's players were faster to the ball than us," he said.
"I changed things around in the second half and we played better and scored through Simon Jones but it just wasn't enough."
Blackrock Rovers welcomed Lloyd Williams back from injury but the return was short-lived as he was carried off in the first 30 seconds.
"Kieron Nesbitt was also injured in the first half and replaced by Dan Mullen," said Rovers manager Paul Lovell.
"After going 1-0 down, Jamie Watkins equalised with a well-taken goal before half time.
"A bit of self-belief and a great performance by Connor Bryant saw us add to our tally with goals from Ben Smith and a second for Jamie,"
