This week, I want to start by thanking our incredible South Wales Fire and Rescue Service for their tireless work tackling the devastating wildfires we have seen across South Wales.

Our firefighters have worked around the clock to bring these fires under control, putting themselves in harm’s way to protect homes, wildlife and our countryside.

They deserve our heartfelt gratitude for everything they are doing to protect us all.

I was really glad to see the Prime Minister provide 100 military personnel to support firefighters here in South Wales. This is much-needed additional support and will go a long way in helping those on the frontline deal with these fires.

Despite temperatures dropping at the time of writing, I urge everyone to remain vigilant and be very careful.

Please do not light fires or use portable barbecues, stay well away from any wildfires, and report any fires you see immediately.

These fires are devastating, and we must all do everything we can to ensure the situation can be dealt with safely without accidentally making it worse.

I also completely support my Welsh Labour MS colleagues in their call to Plaid Cymru to recall the Senedd so that everything possible can be done to support the communities and people affected.

Of course, these fires are just one of many warnings about climate change and how rising temperatures can directly affect us all.

That's why protecting our environment is one of my top priorities, and my key focus is cleaning up our rivers.

That’s why I was pleased to complete my first river testing session recently.

Getting out and doing this work is really useful, as it not only helps us collect more data about the health of our rivers locally, but also gives me a better understanding of what is happening on the ground.

A huge thank you to Friends of the River Wye for training me and helping me get involved in this work. If you would like to volunteer and help with river testing, I’d encourage you to get in touch with them.

In Parliament, I'm also campaigning for the whole River Wye to be designated a Water Protection Zone so it gets the protection it needs.

Finally, I recently had a fantastic day at Monmouthshire Show. It was brilliant to meet so many residents and see all the livestock and produce.

I was also delighted to talk to the Gwent Wildlife Trust, the fantastic Wyesham Hive project, and the South Wales Mountain Rescue Dogs.

A huge well done to everyone who won an award, all those involved in organising the show, all the volunteers, as well as everyone who attended and helped make it such a great day.
