Why did MP not back our bids?

Last Thursday evening I watched in complete dismay, the BBC Wales evening news as Monmouthshire MP David TC Davies “defended” the winning of the recent levelling up funding bid by Cardiff to create a train link between Cardiff train station and Cardiff Bay, as well as defending Porthcawl’s winning bid for funding to renovate a heritage building.

Monmouthshire bid for three levelling up projects but completely lost out.

Cardiff does not actually need a train link when there is already a train link between the bay and the centre and Cardiff has received massive regeneration funding over many years.

Why did David TC Davies defend the winning bids when really, he should have been fully backing and supporting Monmouthshire?

Yet again it appears David TC Davies is happy with Monmouthshire not getting its fair share.

Some people in Monmouthshire and across South Wales are currently facing fuel poverty and can’t afford to put the heating on, some are really struggling to pay for food, have huge delays in doctors and hospital appointments.

People are struggling to find school places for their children, are fed up with high crime levels but no real police deterrent, they see our roads are all potholed and our water is polluted with sewage and phosphates, yet David TC Davies believes the Government funding a train link in Cardiff and building renovations outside Monmouthshire will help?

Further to this, I recently discovered the Labour councillors at Monmouthshire County Council presented their Corporate and Community plan to a Council meeting on Thursday afternoon.

The plan is full of ideas to tackle fuel poverty, give free school meals for all primary schools, tackle homelessness and provide increased mental health support, but the Conservative councillors at the meeting voted it down, and used childish political point scoring rather than constructive dialogue to help the people of Monmouthshire.

I naively thought our MP and councillors of all parties would be putting Monmouthshire residents first, but it appears this is not the case.

It appears David TC Davies has either run out of energy, interest, and passion for the job and for those residents who so desperately need help, or he has too much on his plate since taking the Welsh Secretary job and now has no time for the people of Monmouthshire.
