A former Monmouth rugby player was attacked with an iron bar after telling a gang of youths to stop jumping on the roof of a car.

Two men have since been charged by police in relation to the attack.

Steve Townsend was beaten with a metal bar as he walked along Goldwire Lane on his way home from The Green Dragon pub.

The 43-year-old spotted a youth jumping on the roof of a BMW and told them "in no uncertain terms to get down."
