TRELLECH teenager Alex Allen has made history as the youngest person to go solo in a glider at the South Wales Glider Club (SWGC) at only 14.

The Monmouth Comprehensive student completed a summer winching week at the Gliding Club with intense training from his instructors Ian Kennedy and Dave Jeffries, completing fourteen flights in one day.

Having moved through the syllabus quickly to get up to solo standard, Alex made the most of the recent change to the age restriction from 16 down to 14. Alex will continue to improve his skills with the hope to begin to fly cross country when he turns 16.
