WYNDCLIFFE Court Sculpture Garden and tea rooms will be closing its doors to the public at the end of September.

Artists Christine Baxter and Alex Brown set up the sculpture garden when they began renting the Grade II listed house and garden in 2013.

The pair are to move on after they were unable to agree on a mutually acceptable term with the letting agency.

The house also needs essential roof repairs, which can only be performed when the property is vacant.

Christine Baxter said: “Alex and I have thoroughly enjoyed our time at Wyndcliffe; as a family home, a studio for us both and a sculpture gardens and tea rooms for the public.

“Over the years we have welcomed many thousands of visitors to the Grade II list house and gardens and have been privileged to live and work in such stunning surroundings.”

“The 2016 season has been our most successful year to date with very many people passing through the gardens, record sculpture sales and a thriving tea rooms. Regrettably the proposed huge increase in rent made Wyndcliffe Court Sculpture Gardens unviable as a commercial enterprise.

“We will be carrying on as usual until the end of September when the sculpture gardens and tea rooms will close for good.

We urge members of the public to come along and see the stunning arts and crafts gardens while they still can.”

A spokesperson for the Elstons said: “Elstons of Chepstow and Usk are the managing estate agents of Wyndcliffe Court on behalf of the owners.

“The owners express their best wishes to the outgoing tenants Mrs Baxter and Mr Brown on their move to new premises.

“This listed grade II historic home has remained in the owners’ family since it was built in 1922.

“The family are considering returning to occupy the house, where there is an essential re-roofing schedule urgently required.

“The stone tiles on the roof have disintegrated and work is scheduled over the forthcoming months from the autumn while it is vacant.

“Cadw and Monmouthshire County council are currently in negotiations with the owners over these imminent repair plans for the house.”

Wyndcliffe Court Sculpture Gardens will remain open to visitors until 25th September 2016.
