Monday 14th July marked the last Wyesham WI meeting until September. In light of this, the evening was a celebration of the group, with a beautiful buffet created by all the members and a superb raffle with not one but two hampers as first and second prizes.

To begin the evening President Daphne Evans drew everyone's attention to the latest Gwent Federation Newsletter and important points contained therein. Following that she reminded everyone of the arrangements for the afternoon tea in the Orepool on 16th July which is replacing the usual August trip which had proved too expensive.

Judith drew attention to a letter from GFWI asking for volunteers to be a point of contact for Wyesham and the NFWI Wales Waterloo Project, stopping violence against women and girls. Two ladies volunteered.

Daphne said that the table top sale in June had been very successful and had boosted funds. Also very important is the enjoyment this occasion gives to the people of Wyesham who always show their support. Those who helped with the success of the day were warmly thanked. Another community event is the quiz night, which raises funds for St James Community Hall. Wyesham WI were delighted to take part in this enjoyable evening, even though all we won the wooden spoon! Daphne mentioned that St James Church is celebrating its 150th birthday and there will be a special service on Sunday 27th, followed by tea.

With the business part complete, it was up to Judith to provide the entertainment for the evening – a version of the Family Fortunes game, which was a lot of fun. Well done to the winning team.

The next meeting will be Monday 8th September at 7pm. The speaker for that evening will be the hugely talented singer and entertainer Peter Gill. His subject for the evening is Jerry Lee Lewis and he will be talking about his extraordinary life and also singing some of the songs that made him famous. New members very welcome.
