Wyesham Wanderers travelled to Thornwell looking for a first cup victory this season, but, on an incredibly blustery day, Wanderers just couldn't manage to score and went down by the only goal of the match. Pinning Wyesham them into their own half, Thornwell created chance after chance, however the visiting defence proved to be too strong, with keeper and club captain Andrew Griffith making several first class saves. Wyesham never looked like getting any thing from the first half and struggled to get hold of the ball, resulting in a change of formation for the away team  Half time brought an unwanted substitution for Wyesham, with centre back Steven Hancock suffering from a suspected break in his foot, which later was confirmed. The second half started with Wyesham taking advantage of the conditions, winning a free kick on the edge of the box, with Tim Radnor stretching the Thornwell keeper to produce a good save. The game continued with both teams struggling to settle and chances falling at either end. On the 74th minute Thornwell produced some excellent football to break the deadlock. However, the Wyesham keeper will feel hard done by after making an outstanding double save, only to see the ball scrambled over the line by the Thornwell strikers. Wyesham continued to make chances, with Liam Radnor testing the keeper from the edge of the box and then sending the rebound wide with an overhead kick, and Dave Townsend seeing his long range effort crash back of the cross bar. Wyesham Manager Dave Cox remarked at the end "We was a bit unlucky today; the boys defended really well and we didn't deserve to concede the goal. We missed a few players and I'm sure we would be looking at a different result if we had a full squad. "Let's not forget we played a team near the top of the division and we looked just as good as them". Wyesham Wanderers would like to thank their sponsors Valley Construction LTD and The Mayhill Hotel as well as their supporters for coming out yet again.
