Why the Wye?

Firstly, simply it's a beautiful part of the country and a fantastic stretch of water - from the excitement of Symonds Yat to the long uninterrupted stretches – a perfect place to train.

Secondly, it's where we (as novice canoeists) first learnt to canoe thanks to the generosity (in both time and equipment) of Sue and Graham Symmonds at Monmouth Canoe & Activity Centre. This was all just a crazy idea until we had their help. It therefore felt right to begin our journey to the Yukon where the whole adventure begun.

Thirdly, Tom's parents live in Llandogo where they have kindly let us store the canoe and train from for the last year.
