Works at the Lower Wireworks site in Tintern (on the Angidy road) are under way.
When completed, the site will provide an improved car parking area with safer access on to the road.
This will be coupled with new information describing the history of the ironworking industry in the Angidy valley.
It is hoped that visitors to Tintern will use the site as a base for walking in the area as new maps will also be included which will identify sites of interest within Tintern.
The site has undergone a number of changes in the past from its original purpose as a wireworking site in the 1700s.
Iron products from Angidy furnace would have been worked to make carders, fishhooks and pins, but possibly the most famous product was the first transatlantic cable.
