A Herefordshire Councillor, officers and even the MP visited Ross last week to see the work that has begun on the biggest ever investment in the infrastructure of Ross, thanks to funding from DEFRA Councillor Brian Wilcox, Herefordshire Council's cabinet member for highways and transportation, came to the Homs Road carpark to see for himself how works are progressing on the £7million Ross- on-Wye flood alleviation scheme. He was accompanied by Herefordshire Council's construction projects team leader Martin Jackson. Contractor Nuttall started work on September 10th on the scheme which promises to end the misery of flooding in Greytree Road, Brook End Street, Millpond Street and the Broadmeadows Industrial Estate by the Rudhall and Chatterley brooks. The scheme aims to increase the amount of water that can flow through the watercourses and excess water from the two brooks will be diverted away from the Greytree Road culvert into a new 350- metre long tunnel being built between Kings Acre car park and Homs Road car park. Councillor Wilcox was interviewed for television and radio news standing almost on the spot in the car park where the amazing tunnel will be dug. The man in charge of the tunnel has plenty of experience, he worked on the Channel Tunnel. Further excess water will also be stored by a 1.7- metre high earth bund east of the A40.
