A TEAM of workers removed obstruction in Monmouth’s rivers this week.
Natural Resources Wales (NRW) workers took advantage of last week’s dry weather to remove driftwood that posed a flood threat last Wednesday (7th December).
Rob Lane, Operations Delivery Team Leader for NRW, told the Beacon: “We build and maintain hundreds of miles of flood defences and provide a flood warning service to 100,000 people in Wales.
“Our officers have recently removed obstructions from both the Monnow and Wye bridges in Monmouth town.
“Every year we get calls about debris on these bridges which can increase the flood risk to the town. Our specialist boat and chainsaw crews cleared all archways on both bridges and the water can now flow freely.
“Dry weather and low river levels gave us the chance to remove this material before it has a chance to cause a problem.”
Anyone who sees a blocked main watercourse should report it to NRW by calling 03000 65 3000.
