A proposed new access for the Wonastow Road development has been thrown out by Monmouth Town Council's Planning Committee Monday night, (27th April).

The present road layout would be altered to give priority to cars travelling onto the estate, proposing to enclose some of the open drainage. But this did not sit very well with some councillors who felt that Jingle Street was an ancient drovers road into town and should not be altered in favour of a housing development. "It is a shame and criminal to change the layout" said Councillor Sue Chivers, a view echoed by others.

The plan was unanimously refused on the grounds of road layout; the idea of a closed box culvert will not work under flood conditions and no explanation was given where excess water would go; no detail was given of how the priority of the road would be controlled; any drainage works should be viewed in the context of the whole site and any footpath proposal should be assessed between the development and access to the town, not just for the immediate area.

•An application for an extension to the Special Needs Unit at Overmonnow School, now called Special Needs Resource Base has been approved for recommendation by Monmouth Town Council's Planning Committee.

The three metre by nine metre extension was welcomed by councillors, no more than County Councillor Sue White, also a governor at the school who said that the unit is an important part of the special needs resource in the county.

Other plans passed Monday night ( 27th April) included: DC/2015/00398, a proposed infill dwelling on plot B 102 Hereford Road Monmouth; 00400, a proposed infill dwelling on plot A 102 Hereford Road Monmouth.
