MONMOUTHSHIRE County Council Vice Chairman Sue White was delighted to host the launch of "Organised" - an exhibition exploring the history of some local organisations run by and for women in Monmouth, on Friday. She welcomed Sue Hassall, International Guide Commissioner who spoke about the history and activities of this dynamic organisation, which has enriched the lives of so many girls. She was thanked by the organiser, Sue Miles, who expressed her gratitude to the many people who had contributed photographs, scrap books, uniforms, medals and many other fascinating items, which are on display. The display includes: the Mothers' Union, WRVS, Women's Institute, Townswomen's Guild, Ladies Keep Fit, Cricket, Rifle Shooting and Badminton, Girls Friendly Society, Guides, LVA, Ladies Auxiliary, Ladies Circle, Red Cross, and British Legion Women's Section. There is even a banner which was taken to Greenham Common Women's Camp by local women, which has holes caused by the camp fire! Eleanor Bird, Chair of Monmouth Women's Festival, announced the forthcoming talk on Welsh Women and WWII by Deidre Beddoe and the Wales Women's History Roadshow, which both take place at The Priory on Wednesday at 7.30pm and Thursday 10am-2pm respectively. The assembled guests then enjoyed Fairtrade tea, coffee and biscuits, provided by Monmouth Women's Festival. The exhibition runs until June 1st, 2008, open daily 11am-1pm, 2pm-5pm Monday-Saturday; 2pm- 5pm on Sunday.
