SIR, I was shocked and disgusted at the utter stupidity of political correctness when I heard that some city councils will be changing the traditional term of "Christmas Lights" to "Winter Lights" just in case other religious were offended. Poppycock! We are a Christian and English speaking nation, proud of our traditions and heritage Our culture has developed over centuries and our freedom, so dearly fought and gained, is the strength and backbone of our lives. Controlled immigration with its inherent and wonderful opportunities for people from other countries and religions, whether born here or not, is exceptionally good for this great country of ours. Unfortunately, an excess of illegal immigration and multicultural communities will, on the other hand, soon dilute out national identity. There are, however, some things all immigrants must know - we don't speak Urdu, Chinese, Italian or Spanish, so they must earn to speak English. If our Christian religion offends them to such an extent that they want to convert our culture to their way of thinking, then I suggest they return to the country of their origin and the compatriots whose culture agrees with them. In Great Britain you always have the right and the freedom to leave whenever you want. We love our Queen, our country, our national identity and our God. these matters are as important to us as our national mottoes: "God is my right" and "In God we trust." Perhaps this sounds a bit jingoistic but I'm sure every true Englishman has these same feelings of patriotism within their heart of hearts. James H Alexander (Symonds Yat West)
