Sir,
If Mr Llewellyn had actually taken the time to read and digest my letter regarding the speed signs along Rockfield Road, he might just have caught the gist of my complaint!
I only wanted to make it clear to the people of Monmouth, that my concern was a generalisation of the minority of idiot drivers that hurtle along the entire section of Rockfield Road, whether they come from the old/new estate, or even Cross Ash on a morning!
He dares to call me a whinger for bringing this problem, allbeit a 'minor' one, to the attention of your readers, then he goes on to complain that he gets no mobile phone signal, he has no local pub, he has to watch out for hikers and horses and that the road through his village is 60mph (actually, as a built up area, the maximum speed limit, being a B-road, is only 50mph, 30 outside the local school, a national, not local law!).
The local police actually placed a mobile speed-camera on the Rockfield Road on Monday morning, just as the school-run started, and numerous cars were stopped for breaking the speed limit!!
If Mr Llewellyn wants to point a finger at "whingers", try pointing it at the drivers who endanger the lives of our children on a daily basis, mainly outsiders who have moved to Monmouth to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life!
On a finishing note, no one forced Mr Llewellyn to live in a village, miles from "civilisation", we all get to choose where we live, does Cross Ash have a drug culture, gangs of youths walking the streets until 2am in the morning, vandalism, graffiti, etc?
Richard Simmonds
(Monmouth)
