SIR,
The front page article of the Beacon saying that 'no decision has been made' about the siting of the market was extremely illuminating.
It seems that county officials are making decisions without any reference to the town council, the public at large, or in fact county councillors.
Councillor Greenland, only when pressed by Richard Bond, admitted that a recommendation "might" have been made, but he was unaware of it.
There is no doubt that traders and the town council were informed that the decision not to return the market to the square had been made.
Cllr Greenland and Ms Beirne are using obfuscation in order not to be held to account for a decision which is being opposed by the people of Monmouth.
What is of concern is the absolute silence on the matter from the four elected county councillors for Monmouth.
Perhaps they are not concerned about the market or the Tourist Information Centre.
If this is the case, then they may regret their silence when the voters have a chance to give their verdict in the county elections in May.
