SIR,

It is now part of Sixties music lore that The Beatles made a live appearance in the Forest of Dean.

However, it appears that another legendary group, The Rolling Stones, dropped in to Monmouth one evening.

Long time Stones fan Malcolm Charles, who lives on Merseyside, contacted The Beacon to say he was certain the wild men of pop stayed at The Beaufort Arms Hotel.

He said he had proof, in the form of a hotel noteheading, that they had stayed at the hotel.

"It was sellotaped on the back of the group's Number 2 album" said Malcolm. "That proves they stayed at The Beaufort, which was a Trust House hotel, but they never played a live show in the town".

Anyone who can provide more evidence of the group's stay in the town should contact Malcolm on [email protected]">[email protected].
