Monmouth Conservative Club played host to the leader of the Welsh Conservatives, Andrew RT Davies, last Friday (9th September).
Mr Davies was in town to speak to people about the Welsh Government and to promote what his party could do for them.
"A lot of people in this region are apathetic towards the Welsh Government and the assembly," he said
"But to get anything out of the government you have to be engaging with them.
"By not thinking about the Welsh Government you are not doing yourself any favours.
"What the Welsh Government needs is Conservative leadership.
"Monmouth already has great Conservative representation with Nick Ramsay AM in the Welsh Government and David Davies MP in Westminster.
"Monmouthshire County Council is also exemplar as a Conservative local authority."
Mr Davies said his party had been championing the need for rate relief for small businesses, but the Welsh Government was dragging its heels about it.
"Under us, all businesses with a rateable value of less than £12,000 would be free of rates," he said.
