SIR,
The latest 'desktop' feasibility study for the Local Development Plan is now available online at monmouthshire.gov.uk/LDP or at the One Stop Shop.
The consultation period is brief and comments and objections need to be registered by 4th February. One of the main themes of this 'desktop' report is that all the problems can be dealt with "in principle". That's great on the 'desk', not so good on the ground.
The Welsh Assembly have bought this unsuitable marshland site and are now determined to force through a catastrophic development on Monmouth, at some huge further environmental and financial cost (funded by the Regeneration Investment Fund for Wales).
The report indicates major problems with the provision of sewerage management, potential flooding, potential contamination of the aquifer (underground water), highways, all of which are brushed aside or left for the distant future.
You can respond by email to [email protected]">[email protected] or write to Martin Davies, Development Plans, Monmouthshire County Council, County Hall, Cwmbran, NP44 2HX.
This latest disproportionate development would swamp our town in more ways than one, if allowed to go ahead.
Please register your objections to County Hall, David Davies and Nick Ramsay, and all our local county councillors.
Lesley Gann
(Monmouth)
