Monmouth Warriors (under 13's) played host to Pontypool Colts in weather that was more akin to cricket than rugby! The early exchanges were fairly even until a determined break by Max Senior took play deep into the Pontypool half.

Inspired forward play by Harry Miles and Dan Musselbrook forced Pontypool to concede a 5 yard scrum. Quick ball ensued and with the backs in full flow Hamish Lindsay went over in the corner for the first try of the game. Soon after Hamish was denied a second try by an excellent cover tackle by the Pontypool flanker.

The Monmouth backs were now displaying their full range of skills with Dan Dunmore, Henry Orchart and Morgan Paley prominent. Another fine movement resulted in an unconverted try for Max Senior. The Warriors were now gaining the upper hand and with the forwards and backs combining well Max Senior scored his second try.

Towards the end of the first half Pontypool came back strongly through their forwards and scored a well deserved try in the corner. Pontypool continued to gain in confidence and it needed an outstanding tackle by Joe Walters to halt a threatening attack that looked likely to break the Monmouth cover defence. Half time came with the Monmouth Warriors leading 15 – 5.

The second half began with the Warriors taking play to the Pontypool 22 where they were awarded a penalty. A quick 'tap and go' by the ever alert Max Davies who then combined with Jacob Webley to send Max Senior in for his hat trick of tries.

Pontypool continued to play to the strength of their forwards but the Warriors were up to the task. Their tackling and commitment were excellent with Jack Nuttall, Joe Bezani Nico McCord and the 'all action' Will Korb to the fore. However they were unable to prevent the Pontypool forwards eventually driving over from close range.

In the last quarter of the game both sides scored tries with Hamish Lindsay getting his second after some slick handling by the backs. All in all a hard fought match with the warriors coming out on top 25. – 15.

Warriors Coach Lloyd Davies praised his team for their tenacity and determination to win the ball on the ground.

He was also particularly pleased with the way they used the width of the pitch to their advantage. Man of the match awards went to Max Davies and Max Senior for their outstanding contribution to the victory.

Next week's game is away to Berry Hill.
