On 23rd December, 27 intrepid walkers, led by Kevin Thomas of Monmouth, walked from Chepstow to Monmouth to raise money for Friends of Chernobyl's Children.

For some, the goal was the seven-mile walk to Brockweir but most completed the whole 17-mile walk.

In conditions not dissimilar to a Belarusian winter the walkers, who included people from teenagers to several more mature in age and also several dogs, set off at a brisk pace in order to reach their destination before dark fell.

Refreshments were provided at Brockweir and Bigsweir but the walkers did not rest for long – it was too cold to stop moving.

The money raised will go towards paying for the visit to Monmouthshire next summer by 10 children from Belarus.
