SIR, On behalf of the Rotary Clubs of Monmouth, Chepstow and Ross-on-Wye, I am writing to express our thanks for the support given by the Beacon for our Walk the Wye sponsored walk along the banks of the Wye on Sunday 11th May. The articles which appeared in the Beacon in the run up to the walk undoubtedly made a major contribution to the success of the event. The two-page feature, which included an entry form, designed by your team, was excellent. Please pass on our thanks to the local businesses that supported the pages. Over 300 walkers took part, and we hope to have raised in excess of £11,000 when all the sponsorship money is in. All the money raised will be donated to the breast cancer research charity, In The Pink, (75 per cent) and other charities supported by the Rotary Clubs of Monmouth, Chepstow and Ross-on-Wye (25 per cent). In The Pink Charity was formed 12 years ago by a former breast cancer patient and her friends. To date they have raised over £1.1 million for the breast cancer research team at Velindre, Cardiff, by running canal and river walks across South Wales.
