Sir,

Through the pages of the Beacon, I would like to extend an invitation to your readers to help Rotary raise money for breast cancer research.

The Rotary clubs of Monmouth, Chepstow and Ross-on-Wye are running their annual sponsored walk, with various start points between Chepstow and Monmouth, on Sunday 13th May. There are also additional start points at Kerne Bridge and Symonds Yat.

The event is again raising money for the In The Pink breast cancer research charity.

Walkers will meet at Monmouth Show Ground and buses will take them to the start of their chosen walk. They will then walk back to the Show Ground on the paths alongside the river.

All walks finish at Monmouth Show Ground.

The recent good weather has ensured that the scenery is at its best. The trees are in leaf, the bluebells are out and the wild garlic is coming into flower. All reflected in the mirror-like surface of the Wye.

So please get together with your friends and come and join us. It's for a very good cause.

The entry fee for this year's walk has been maintained at £4. This includes free parking at the Show Ground and free buses to take walkers to the start of their chosen walk.

You can register your entry online at

walkthewye.com or call Pete Walters on 01600 860399 and ask for an entry form.

It was a great event last year, when 422 walkers raised almost £15,000. Please help us to do even better this year.

Hoping to see you there.

Norman Williams, Walk Co-ordinator
