A PAST inmate of Monmouth Police Station was made most welcome recently and was given a guided tour of the building.
Mrs Christina Price lived in the Station for several years during her childhood when her father Mr John Lewis was a Police superintendent and lived in the family accommodation which was part of the building at that time.
Mrs Price returned for a visit to the Station after spending her married life abroad. Stationed in various British colonies around the world she has now retired and settled on the Isle of Man.
Taking the opportunity of a return visit to Monmouth with some friends, Mrs Price recalled that she was very young in 1929 when she first moved into the building in Glendower Street.
She lived there until the late 1940s and despite the many changes made to the building - in particular when it was renovated during the mid 90s - she recognised many of the features within the listed part of the building. Her bedroom gave her a view of the Boys' School and is now occupied by a typist, while her parents slept in what is now the Inspector's office.
Times certainly had changed though as she recalled some of her memories to Sgt Mike Gray. Her parents were not very keen on her learning how to ride a bike and so the Sergeant at the time detailed an officer to accompany her around the Chippenham Fields ensuring that she came to no harm.
Anybody who has memories of Christina Lewis as she was known then are invited to pass them on to Sgt Gray who will pass them on to Mrs Price.
