SIR,
Your readers are being asked to contribute to a vital debate on what future the people of Wales want for the National Assembly for Wales.
In the New Year, at a series of meetings across the country, the All Wales Convention will be asking people in Wales to engage in the question of whether or not the National Assembly should have further primary law-making powers, and if so, how should those powers be obtained.
The outcome of the debate will have a fundamental impact on how Wales is governed, and therefore on daily lives.
The Convention is an independent body set up by the Welsh Assembly Government to provide information on the current devolution settlement and to stimulate the widest possible debate.
We will present in late 2009 a balanced view of the arguments around further law-making powers, based on the views expressed to us.
We have no particular view to advocate, and it will then be for the Welsh Assembly Government to recommend a way forward and to decide whether to hold a referendum on the subject.
We want the debate to be full and lively, and to capture all views from anyone who wishes to participate from anywhere in Wales - so your readers are welcome to come to any of our meetings.
A list of venues and dates, along with more information on the subject, is available at our website – http://www.allwalesconvention.org">www.allwalesconvention.org. And anyone wishing to feed in views directly or earlier can do so now by emailing them at [email protected]">[email protected], or phoning 029 2089 8187.
Sir Emyr Jones Parry
(Chairman, All Wales Convention)
