Ross on Wye 'A' team's first home game of the year was a return match against Lea SMBC on January 3rd, and it resulted in a victory for Ross. Margaret Eggleton, Dave Watkins, Les Williams and James Zimmerman, of Ross, lined up on mat 1 against a Lea team that included James's grandfather Rolf Zimmerman. On Mat 2 D Gardner, F Garrett, A Carver and D Dew of Ross, faced a team led by Jack Smith. Lea commence well on mat one, with four first end shots, however it only took Ross 'A' two more ends to match that score. From then on it was one-way traffic, as shot after shot piled up for Ross 'A', 6 - 4 11 - 4. End six saw them safe and sound at 15 shots to 4. Lea managed to gain a couple more points over the next two ends, so when the home team were holding a one shot advantage in the ninth end with just James Zimmerman to bowl his last wood, everyone watching expected him to take the one shot, which would guarantee a Ross victory. James had other ideas! Lining up his wood he delivered a pinpoint accurate running shot, taking out Lea's only counting wood. From a single shot end he changed it to a magnificent seven, giving Ross 'A' a 22 shots – 6 shots advantage, an exact reversal of the score at Lea! A tense last end unfolded with both sides holding, and then losing shot, Lea took one final point. On the other mat, Lea players claimed victory by one shot in a closely fought game. After mat changes, both games went shot for shot, until the seventh end when both mats were level pegging. From that point Ross came through strongly to win both games 16 - 9 18 - 10. With a total score for the evening of 65 - 35, Ross 'A' clocked up a win of 8 - 2 league points and also took a bonus aggregate point by 13 shots.
