The inquest into the death of a young Monmouthshire woman has recorded a verdict of accidental death.

Graduate Katrina Jacks died last May while trekking in Peru, after suffering from the acute effects of altitude sickness.

Katrina, 23, a former pupil at Haberdashers' Monmouth School for Girls, was staying with a family on an island in Lake Titicaca, when she was found dead.

She had graduated from Imperial College, London last year, with a first class mechanical engineering degree in chemical engineering, winning a research prize in her final year.

She was also a keen oarswoman, and had represented Britain in the 2007 Commonwealth Championships, as well as at under 16s level.

The cause of death was undetermined by post mortem.
