Another sport has been the target of vandals on the Sports Ground as it emerged that a hole has been cut in the security fence surrounding the tennis courts.
Within the last two weeks a hole has been cut in the back fence that runs alongside the public footpath between Chippenham Gate and the dual carriageway, close to where the cricket club will shortly be building their practice nets.
Committee member Jean Sadler said it was sad to see this unnecessary vandalism. She added: "Whoever's responsible came with intent and a strong pair of wire cutters and made a good clean job of cutting a hole big enough for someone to climb through.
"The club works hard to promote tennis in Monmouth and encourage new members. We had a brilliant response to our open day on Sunday (17th May) when dozens of children and adults turned up for a taste of what the club can offer in both coaching and social tennis. It's a great shame that others feel it necessary to cut through our fence to gain access."
