Well what a disappointment. I am sure everyone is devastated at the news that Usk Show won't be running this year, writes Show Secretary, Fiona Jenkins.

All the work is done, and now the weather has beaten us. I am not so much disappointed for myself, but for all the people who regularly visit Usk Show and have a wonderful day out at the end of the summer, catching up with friends and family.

I would like to thank everyone, Section Secretaries, Stewards, and Committee Members, on behalf of the Farmers' Club for the work that they have put into organising this years Show, and am sure it would have been another excellent event.

It was a difficult decision at first when the Officers decided to call it a day. We had inspected the Showfield a few weeks ago, and a decision to move to the car park fields was taken at the pre-show meeting, because of water logged areas.

During the last weekend of August, we marked out all the Show on the Car Park fields, and were very pleased to find everything would fit in and work well. That weekend was beautifully sunny.

However, by Tuesday conditions has worsened significantly and then of course Friday's forecast was diabolical with severe weather warnings.

On Friday evening there was about 50% of our total acreage under two feet of water!!

It was then that the officers realised they had made the correct decision.

All Traders and General Contractors and Suppliers were informed on Thursday and Friday of the cancellation, and the Section Secretaries have been very prompt in informing all our exhibitors.

Usk Show will be back next year on September 12th 2009.
