Mayor of Usk Alec Leathwood has voiced his concerns about the plans to close Usk delivery office.

In a letter to Heulyn Gwyn Davies, Royal Mail's senior Welsh affairs manager, Councillor Leathwood condemns the plans, stating that he is unable to see how the closure will improve the efficiency of Royal Mail operations.

He also points out that they appear to have failed to communicate with local staff and customers who will be affected by the closure, despite claiming to always do so.

The Beacon reported earlier this month how Royal Mail plan to close the Usk delivery office and relocate it to Pontypool in January 2011.
